Having your roof repaired or replaced is a very important job as it's your roof that protects your entire home against the elements and when done incorrectly can lead to major issues such as: Roof collapse due to excess weight on an insufficient structure i.e replacing slate with concrete tiles, ceilings falling down, rotten rafters/ceiling joists, wet electrics, the list goes on so be sure to use a reputable contractor to carry out the works.
Here are just a few helpful tips as to what to look out for when choosing your contractor:
1: Be sure that your contractor has a fixed address and home/office telephone contact number.
2: It is advised that you use a contractor that specialises in one aspect of the building trade as there is an awful lot of knowledge to be acquired and many so-called tradesmen will try to turn their hands to jobs that are beyond their capabilities to maintain a steady flow of work.
3: Whilst not always an issue it is good to use a contractor that uses sign written vehicles as they are clearly not afraid to be seen out and about by customers that they have carried out works for.
4: Try to use a contractor that is a member of one of the trade associations as if any issues arise during or after the works you would then have a governing body to register any complaint(s) with and your contractor would be bound by them to rectify any issues and in failing to do so would be stripped of their membership.
